We had a great 2013 deer hunting season at Rader Lodge.
2013 Kansas Whitetail Deer Rifle Season Results
We finished up 12 bucks down out of 15 hunters and had more than 4 deer missed. It was a great rifle season with the biggest deer at 168 inches.
It was a rough 2 day start with winds at 35 mph out of the north and sub zero weather. The deer were really hunkered down. I was wondering if we even had any deer. Then the sun came out and the wind went down and so did the deer. We shot 6 bucks Friday night and our luck continued through the weekend and were now setting at 12 bucks. The hunting can be tough, but we settled in and harvested some nice bucks. After all, this is hunting.
2013 Kansas Whitetail Deer Archery Season Results
Archery 2013 was very tricky. The experts that work the moon phases predicted November 17 peak rut. They were right and our first 2 weeks were slow hunting Oct. 26 through Nov. 10. We killed 8 bucks that period and missed that many too. That is very slow for us. We normally shoot around 15 during that period. We did make up for it the next week and arrowed 5 bucks in one evening. The biggest was at 158 inches. They are predicting November 6 for peak rut in 2014.
Mark Melotec, editor of Bowhunting World Magazine took this dandy buck the last hour of his hunt.
